I recently watched the HBO miniseries
The Pacific and liked it enough that I picked up copies of
With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge and
Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. I started reading Leckie's book and I'm enjoying it so far.

I've read "The Old Breed". A no-holds-barred description of the war in the Pacific. I think you will enjoy it. It certainly opened my eyes.
