The Right To Arm Bears by Gordon R. Dickson

This includes Dickson's Spacepaw and Spacial Delivery. Also included is a story by Ben Bova. All involve Dickson's bear-like Dilbians. I remember reading the Dickson pieces but the Bova story was new to me. All involve a human dropped into an unfamiliar culture who is forced to survive by his wits and...well read it. You won't regret it. Dickson and Bova are always worth your time.

The cover is neat. Love it but it really has nothing to do with the contents. Same for the title.

What's going on in Charlotte isn't a protest.

It's a riot. The local and state government need to shut it down by whatever means necessary.

Kid turns in knife to his teacher after he finds it in his bag.

It wasn't his. He didn't know how it got there. His mom bought the bag at Goodwill and thought the knife might have been in the bag when she bought it. The school suspends him for one year.

Prince of Outcasts by S. M. Stirling

The latest in Stirling's Amberverse series. I've not read one yet that I haven't liked. It progresses the story without usual padding you get late in other series. It is up to Stirling's usual high standard. If you are new to the Amberverse this is not the book for you. Start with Dies the Fire. You'll find your way here eventually. Highly Recommended.

Home Invader Shot in Georgia

In Georgia, a homeowner was awakened by the noise of her front door being kicked in. She saw three evil gits coming through the door and went to retrieve her handgun. she opened fire killing one. the others returned fire as they fled. No one else was injured. The moral of this story is if you hear your door being kicked in, take your gun with you when you investigate.

There will be blood in the streets...

...except there won't be. The anti=gun zealots have been making that claim, or the equivalent, since Florida passed shall issue back in the 80s and it hasn't happened yet. Missouri passed constitutional carry and the New York Times is in an uproar and as full of shit as usual.

Good.
Katie Couric Sued for $12 Million For Defamation In Anti-Gun Documentary
Not sure how far it will go, but if all the suit does is cost Couric and Soechtig some green to defend themselves then that's OK too.

Germanica by Robert Conroy

Another alternate history from Conroy. This time the Nazis withdraw into an Alpine Redoubt in hopes that they can draw the war out so the Allies will agree to a conditional surrender so Nazi Germany can survive. If you've read Conroy's other novels then this will offer little surprise. It is standard Conroy. That is not a complaint. It is a recommendation.

Oh Yeah.

The GOP's problem is that people want their free shit, and will vote for a lyin, cheatin, murderin, stroke-havin, bribe-takin, becankled harridan and reinforce the failed policies of a feckless beta-male/manchurian-candidate president simply because the other guy is a white blowhard who says mean things. - Ed Friedman

Null-ABC by H. Beam Piper

If I've read this before, it was so long ago I've forgotten it. Picked it up for free over at Project Gutenberg. I started reading Piper in the ACE editions. After Heinlein, he is my favorite of the old timers. This is dated but the tale of a society divided between the literate and illiterate and the conflict between them is well done. It's a quick read and highly recommended.
