Except in the movie...

...Godzilla is actually the good guy even though he probably kills a few thousand people and destroys a billion or so dollars in real property while killing the bad monsters.

The movie, by the way, is excellent.

Marine Foils Robbery

In Texas, of course it was Texas, two guys rob a game store but find a concealed carry permit holder, who also happened to be a Marine Veteran, waiting outside. He saw them go in with bandanas over their faces and took this as a clue. Shots were exchanged with the result of one dead bad guy. The other ran for his life and was picked up later by the police.

More Please

Two federal judges have ruled that widely used sting operations designed to ensnare suspects with the promise of a huge payday for robbing an imaginary drug stash house are so "outrageous" that they are also unconstitutional. One judge said the charges were so unfair that he threw them out after three suspects already pleaded guilty.
The Judical Branch is part of that constitutional "checks and balance" thingy. The Federal Bench hasn't been doing it's job for a while now in regard to Federal Law Enforcement. The Feds would rather create the opportunities for the bad guys to commit crimes than find the ones doing it on their own. It's easier. Nice to see some push back. More please.

In China...

The gun didn't misfire. It did exactly what it was designed to do when the Chinese Po Po pulled the trigger during a "safety" talk. At least nobody died. Looks like the hammer came down on anyone even remotely involved which is more than you can say when these things happen in the States.

Whatever

Who the hell is Lu...Sorry. No name dropping here. He's just an attention whore dancing in the blood of the dead.

Rep. King wants a debate.

I do believe we've already had that "debate".

I spent my Memorial Day afternoon at the range...

...with a new shooter. She fired mostly .22 but did fire twelve rounds from my Hi-Power. She had a grand time. That makes it a good day.

It's California, whose politicians never met...

...a gun control law they didn't like, and it's the NRA's fault an evil little git was able to by firearms and go on a killing spree? Oh well, it makes good fodder for the anti-gun MSM.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

I liked it. The pacing was a bit slow at times and it's not my favorite for the year so far, but I liked it. I also like the fact that this kicks The Last Stand to the curb with a bit of a reset for the series. Characters killed off in that film are now back in play for future films. Go see it.

Toledo woman with gun stops mugger with bat

So if she had a gun why did she use a bat? Seriously though...

In Ohio, a mugger with a baseball bat attacked a couple striking the man in the arm. The woman pulled her concealed pistol and fired twice striking the evil git in the leg once. He fled to a local hospital where I hope to hell the police picked him up. Who knows? The reporter doesn't. On the part of the lady...good damn work but aim higher next time.

A Bullet in the Butt

In Texas, a homeowner heard someone try his door and went to look. He saw two evil gits taking his tools out of his truck. He grabbed his rifle, pushed his door open and told the evil gits to get gone. Instead of fleeing one of said gits moved toward the homeowner. That got his shot at. Both gits then left quickly. The homeowner hit his target at least once. The police later found one of them at a local hospital with a bullet in the ass.

Homeowner uses an AR-15...

...to defend his home. In Henderson NC, a homeowner was awakened by an intruder kicking in his door. He grabbed his AR-15 and went looking. He found the armed intruder who fired on him and missed. He didn't. The bad guy is in custody at a local hospital condition unknown. Good work.

Impressive

In Detroit, a 51-year old Grandmother is shoot three times by would be robbers and returns fire with her .45 hitting both. They fled but were picked up by police at a local hospital. Good work.

Second Amendment win in Arkansas

The Second Amendment Foundation has won another lawsuit challenging restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of permanent legal residents. This time it was a challenge against the state of Arkansas' restriction of concealed carry permits to US citizens only.
Good.

Stripped

I can't remember the last documentary I watched that I was so absorbed that the end credits came as a surprise and disappointment. Stripped is about the art and business of comics strips, and it was wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Shall Issue passes in Guam

As long as their Governor doesn't veto, Guam will have shall issue concealed carry.

Obamanism

More zero tolerance idiocy

In New Jersey, a seventh grader is twirling a pencil in his hand when another student told the teacher he was making gun motions. The school administrator sent him home until he underwent a psychological evaluation to prove he was no threat to other students. Ya know, just to be sure. Just another example of the stupidity of zero tolerance policies in our public schools. It s what they do instead of think.

A damned shame

Alleged Carjackers Run Away from Victim After He Fights Back. Then He Pulls His Own Gun.
All we know here is what's in the news. Based on that alone the victim here should have remained at his car after he fought the carjackers off and called the cops. What he's facing now is a long and painful road that will most likely end in his being charged and convicted for killing two sorry pieces of crap that deserved what they got...and that's a damned shame.

Recently Read

Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn
Conquistador de la Noche by Carrie Vaughn
Dreams of the Golden Age by Carrie Vaughn
The Honor of the Queen, Second Edition by David Weber
The Forge by David Drake and S. M. Stirling
The Hammer by David Drake and S. M. Stirling

I'd read Vaughn's Discord's Apple and After the Golden Age, enjoyed them immensely, so finding After the Golden Age made my day. Go get and read them all. Now the Kitty books were another thing. My oldest daughter had recommended them, but I avoided them thinking them just more furry romance. I read the first in the series now and, while it isn't up to Apple and the Golden Age, I did enjoy it. I'll read more with the expectation the quality will improve. The Weber book supposedly has new material in it. I didn't notice any differences from the first edition. Weber is always fun to read whether its the first or third time reading the same book. Forge and Hammer were also rereads. Still good the fourth time around.

Sometimes the old stuff is just the thing you need.

Rule #3

Officer Accidentally Shot During SWAT Training Conference
...and the word you were looking for was negligent.

H/T to The Duck.

Why do I get the feeling this has more to do...

...with keeping those rowdy Tea Party militants in line than winning against the Democrats? Just saying.

Yep.

I'm going to resent everything "Star Wars" until I can buy the original g**damn cut of the original g**damn trilogy on g**damned Bluray. All I want are Bluray copies of Episodes IV, V, and VI before that g**damned George Lucas got his fat, clammy, bungling, on-second-thought g**damned hands all over them.

Until this happens, I am holding my goodwill hostage. And the gun to my goodwill's head is one Greedo shot first with.

Yep. George Lucas created this wonderful universe with the three original films then when and ruined them. The alterations to the first trilogy and the entire second trilogy stunk, and I have little hope for the third if Lucas has a damn thing to do with it.

Billy Johnson: Infringed Rights

My eldest daughter told me about a dream...

She was in the kitchen when she heard someone come into the house through the front door. She picked up a frying pan and hide by the refrigerator. A voice called out "I've got a gun." She responded "...and I've got a frying pan and I know how to use it*".
Then she woke up. She later told me, "Dad I'd have liked to know how that dream ended." I know how it would have ended. I'm getting her a pistol and taking her to the range.

Frying pan my ass.

*She had watched Tangled the night before.

Insanity

That’s what I call it. I was looking at eBay last night to see what a couple of comics books I own were going for. Amazing Spider-Man #300 was one of them. My copy is maybe in very fine to near mint minus condition. The Overstreet Price Guide puts its value at about $100. In my considered opinion their prices are inflated. If I sell one of my comics I usually drop the price about 30% and even that is usually too high for most collectors’ wallets. In the end any item is worth only what someone is willing to pay and for comic books that’s usually nowhere near Guide. Which brings me to this eBay listing, a CGC slabbed copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 graded at 9.9 with a Buy It Now price exceeding $6000 with bids up to $3900. Holy jumping Jehosaphat! Thirty-one people have bid on this thing and someone is willing to pay close to four thousand dollars for it. This is for a comic book that they will never be able to read without eliminating whatever alleged value it has. These bidders don’t want the comics for the love of the medium. It’s a speculative investment. I WISH I had that much disposable income. Insanity.

I went back to find the listing and get a link. Its gone. No idea if it sold or the seller ended the auction. Oh well.
