Dem lawmakers to announce bill limiting online ammo sales

The Dem lawmakers in question would be Frank Lautenberg and Carolyn McCarthy. They want to...
...make the sale of ammunition “safer for law-abiding Americans who are sick and tired of the ease with which criminals can now anonymously stockpile for mass murder
Both use every high profile shooting to push their agenda. Neither will be satisfied until our Second Amendment rights are nonexistent.

As usual call your Senators and Representatives and let them know where you stand on the matter. It may be that when introduced this bill will die in committee without ever seeing the floor of either the House or Senate but those untrustworthy gits need to be reminded constantly we are out here and we vote.

UN fails to reach deal on global arms trade treaty, as US asks for more time

It ain't kaput just delayed so keep the pressure on.
U.N. member states have failed to reach agreement on a new treaty to regulate the multibillion dollar global arms trade.

Some diplomats and treaty supporters blamed the United States for triggering the unraveling of the month-long negotiating conference.

Hopes had been raised that agreement could be reached on a revised treaty text that closed some key loopholes by Friday's deadline for action. But the United States announced Friday morning that it needed more time to consider the proposed treaty -- and Russia and China then also asked for more time.

Democratic senators offer gun control amendment for cybersecurity bill

“Maybe we could come together on guns if each side gave some,” Schumer said.
No. Even if we had the slightest inclination to deal away our rights, we wouldn't do it with an untrustworthy son of a bitch like you who defines "compromise " as we give and you take. The only thing we can trust you and your dishonest bunch of fellow travelers to do is push your agenda each and every time you think the blood of innocents will get you the support you need. Pound sand you useless bastard.

Call your Senators and tell them to vote against this amendment.

Seriously?

Oh, yes he did.

Obama calls for an "assault weapons" ban? In an election year no less? Arrogant and stupid doesn't even begin to describe it.
Now is the time to start calling your candidates, both for State and Federal office, and asking them a simple question. Do they support or oppose the Obama Assault Weapons Ban? Yes or no answers only, please.
Do it now.

BLOOMBERG SUGGESTS POLICE STRIKE IN DEMAND FOR GUN CONTROL

I don‘t understand why the police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say we’re gonna go on strike, we’re not gonna protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe.
Fortunately, I think most police officers have a greater sense of duty than you do Mayor Mikey. Also, and this is not intended as a knock on the police, but I don't see where they protect me from much at all. In most cases the police arrive after the fact, determine what happened, and begin the process of assigning blame. Not always but most of the time. I suspect I'm not alone in that opinion.

Gunslinger Girl

Borepatch posted this. The animation is from the anime Gunslinger Girl. Gunslinger Girl is an anime of the girls and guns genre and excellent as much for the music as the story and animation. I recommend it highly. Here is the title sequence with the Delgados "The Light Before We Land" and a sample of the girls and guns with the original soundtrack.

Customer Thwarts Robbery

In Orlando, two thugs stormed an internet cafe armed with a baseball bat and a handgun. The intent was robbery. A customer opened fire on both. He hit 'em but didn't kill 'em. The police found them later at a local hospital. They claimed to be victims of a drive by. Police didn't buy it either. Oh, there's video.

WRAL has a story on rates of...

...concealed handgun permit possession in North Carolina. The story provides a map that shows the per capita rate of permit possession in each county. I was disappointed, but not surprised, to see Durham County has the lowest rate in North Carolina. A lot more problematical is the searchable database of permit holders for several counties in North Carolina. My county, Durham County, is included. While the database does NOT provide the street number or name of the permit holder, if you live on a short street with with only a house or two the odds of a housebreaker, in search of guns, getting the right house is dramatically reduced. Now you bad guys out there might want to consider using the database as a guide on neighborhoods to avoid. Breaking into a gun owner's home can have unintended consequences...unintended by you that is. My neighborhood, for instance, has lots of permit holders and even more gun owners. At least one of them, I know from personal knowledge has no problem, taking pot shots at housebreakers.

A line in the sand.

Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the powerful lobby group, said 58 senators have pledged to oppose the treaty if it covers civilian weapons, fearing an infringement of America’s gun rights.

“I am here to announce NRA's strong opposition to anti-freedom policies that disregard American citizens' right to self-defense. No foreign influence has jurisdiction over the freedoms our Founding Fathers guaranteed to us,” LaPierre said at the UN Arms Trade Treaty Conference in New York.

“The only way to address NRA's objections is to simply and completely remove civilian firearms from the scope of the treaty. That is the only solution. On that, there will be no compromise.”

Now the question is whether the 58 Senators will keep their word.

A Heinlein Quote

I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don’t think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called. We have had the draft for twenty years now; I think this is shameful. If a country can’t save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain! - The Future Revisited, Robert A. Heinlein

The M16A1 Rifle: Operation and Preventive Maintenance: the Comic

This was posted over at Traction Control. It's neat in and of itself but more of interest to me is the artist, Will Eisner. The Spirit, Sheena, and Blackhawk were among the characters created or co-created by Eisner. He also drew educational comics for the U. S. Military during his time in the service and after his discharge. The M16A1 Rifle was published in 1968.

If you have an interest in this sort of thing, PS Magazine, you can find them in the Digital Collection of the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries. Here is another sample.

Police: Hug triggers officer's gun, kills woman
The story doesn't offer enough information to even develop a viable theory. Shoulder holster? when she hugged something caught the trigger? Strange.

Update: It was a soft waist holster. Still more questions than answers.

Update: She was on her knees "dirty dancing" when she hugged him. That would explain the chest wound.

Another Starship Troopers movie?

It looks like Hollywood may be making another version of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. This would not be a remake of the piece of shit directed by Paul Verhoeven but another interpretation. The new producers talk as if they want to make a more faithful version. Truthfully, that wouldn't be hard but whether anyone in Hollywood could make a version that would be true to the the spirit of Heinlein's novel remains to be seen.
