A clerk at Circle K successfully defended his life against a robber armed with a pistol and was fired. He apparently was expected to stand there and take a bullet when one robber told her partner to shoot him. That's screwed up by any definition.
Attorney General Eric Holder blames the increase in officer line of duty deaths to "illegal" guns. The 173 number that Holder touts is all line of duty deaths from heart attack to the car slipped out of gear and ran over the officer standing in front of said car to some bastard shot 'em. Sixty-three of the deaths were from the non-accidental discharge of a firearm. That's four more than in 2010 when at least one of the bastards doing the shooting got the gun from one of Holder's employees. As sorry as I am for the death of any police officer, that's a not even a statistical blip. This Holder blood dance smells of of an anti-gun agenda and bullshit...lots of bullshit.
The NYT has taken a swipe at North Carolina CCW holders. Apparently, 2400 out of 240.000 CCW holders here have committed crimes of one sort or another. Here's Sean's rundown on the numbers.
You be the judge of whether to be concerned that 1% of permit holders committed crimes AFTER obtaining their permits. I'm not. The important number is the 237,600 or 99% who haven't committed any crimes. This story is the NYT pushing Mayor Bloomberg's anti-gun agenda and nothing more. They deserve as much attention as he does: none at all.
...a cupcake. Actually the TSA at one airport confiscated it after the TSA at another let it through. Seems the "frosting" might have been explosive. Maybe the TSA agent was hungry.
So in recognition of the quality of work the TSA does...
I just found out Eduarto Barreto died December 15th. I don't remember the first comic I saw his art in, but I knew when I saw his name I could count on clean simple pencils and layouts that told a story well. I always enjoyed his art and his passing is a damned shame.
I've been going to movies a bit more than usual this season which apparently makes me unusual since I understand revenues are down this holiday season. I've seen...
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. I liked Downey's first foray into the world of Sherlock Holmes. Holmes in drag and the "urban" camouflage was too silly. I did like the broom-handled Mauser.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Easily the best of the four. Good action and amazing stunts. Fast, tense plot. As a rule I go to movies despite the fact Tom Cruise is in it. I don't like him except in this I did.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I liked the Swedish version. I liked Noomi Rapace. This version doesn't do anything the original didn't we just get it with a Hollywood director and Hollywood actors. If you haven't seen the original you might give it a shot.
Now I'm gonna try to get to Tintin and a year from now there's this...
Joe Simon created Captain America with Jack Kirby. They also produced Sandman, Newsboy Legion, Boy Commnados, Manhunter and a number of other titles. Simon can also take the blame for Prez. He wrote it.
...Soft Target by Stephen Hunter. I'm only a few hundred pages into it but at the moment it's reading like an alternate history where the Prez when into law enforcement instead of community organizing with the expected results.
...a seat on the Court of Appeals is tomorrow. Harry Reid is pushing the vote. Halligan is no friend of the Second Amendment regardless of the bullshit she and her supporters are pushing. Time is short. Let your Senators know you want them to vote no. Do it now here. Both the NRA and GOA oppose Halligan. How often do they agree. If anything that's a clear sign this nomination needs to die. John has more detail at No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money.
Yesterday, I took my son to Cary's Winterfest so he could dance with the Little River Cloggers then home to yard work. We piled the leaves in the ditch to burn. I went to the store and the estranged wife put too much gas on the leaves and lit it. The "whoosh" threw debris ten feet into the air and trash into her eye. I return and she goes to the pharmacy to get eye wash. She also gets ear drops and mistakenly flushes her eye with the ear drops. I spent the rest of the evening at the Emergency Room with the estranged wife. As of now her eye hurts but no permanent damage.
I won't pass judgement on the organization as a whole in this matter, because the young lady was allowed to board with it by the TSA at Jacksonville International Airport. It's a fracking PURSE you twits.
The woman actually shot the man in the leg and herself in the hand in the struggle for the gun. This was after he raped her. She then made a run for it, and the man tried to shoot her and missed. The police found him at his home with a leg wound. He has been charged with first degree rape. All I can think is it was too damn bad he didn't bleed out before the police found him.
Recently started watching the first series of the BBC's Luther on DVD and I'm damned lucky there are only six episodes a series. I'm sure that cop shows in BBCland bear about as much resemblance to reality as they do here in Hollywoodland, BUT it's pretty interesting stuff and good drama plus there's a nice bluesy title theme by Massive Attack.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

The Four Rules
1 - All firearms are always loaded. 2 - Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy. 3 - Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. 4 - Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.
---Jeff Cooper
Four More Rules
1 - Don't go to stupid places.
2 - Don't hang out with stupid people.
3 - Don't do stupid things.
4 - Asking for trouble is a pretty good way to get it
