The New Year approacheth...

I’m mostly a glass half empty kind of guy, and at the moment I'm passing a kidney stone. That doesn't really help my outlook much just now. Here’s hoping for a better year to come.

NC: Armed Robber killed in attempt

An off-duty Pitt County Sheriff's deputy on Wednesday night shot and killed a man who reportedly tried to rob him at an ATM on Charles Boulevard, the Greenville Police Department reported.
The deputy was off-duty and by appearance no different than any other citizen going about his evening. Coulda been me. Coulda been you. Sorry anyone died but better the bad guy than the victim.

Bloomberg's plan

It’s easy to dismiss Bloomberg and his bots as more of the Brady and VPC goofballs. Probably not a good idea as evidenced by this road map to more gun control. In essence he ignoring Congress and using the regulators. He’s a billionaire. You don’t get there and stay there by being stupid. He's persistent and a prick but he thinks long-term. That's scary.

M-41A Pulse Rifle

Here's a video of of a weapon modeled to look like the M-41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens. Kinda neat.

Update: More on the MAX-41A. Can't buy one yet but it looks like its a strong maybe.

Just amazing...

A 10 year old girl in NY is suspended for bringing a bottle of peppermint oil to school. The label read keep out of the reach of children. Unfuckingbelievable and another example of zero tolerance at work.

Seriously?

A teacher in MA writes about guns in schools and says a couple of things that would damn sure cause me to take my kids to anywhere he wasn’t teaching.

An alternative to lockdown is immediate exodus via announcement. Although this removes potential hostages and makes it nearly impossible for the shooter to acquire preselected targets, it unfairly rewards resourceful children who move to safety off-site more shrewdly and efficiently than others.
And…
But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in itself a gun crime.
He rather all the children be at risk than save a few because its unfair to the less resourceful and he’d rather his child, and by extension, other people’s children die rather than use a gun to defend them. His ideals are more important than the life of a child?

And this git still has a job?

The system worked.

Would that be the system that put the bomber’s name on a list after his daddy outed him to the US embassy in Nigeria but didn’t prevent him getting on a plane with a bomb? Would that be the system in Amsterdam that let him board an aircraft with a bomb in his drawers?

The system worked?

My ass you stupid bint. The fact that you would or could even say something like that and keep a straight face indicates you should seek job opportunities on a used car lot or Jim Baker's old pulpit. Oh sorry, under this Administration government service suits you fine. You fit right in.

Hah!

Now this is funny.

Thanks to the Cajun.

But for the grace of God....

We were on our way to a family get-together when this guy in a VW merged in front of a Buick and almost got smacked in the rear because of his carelessness and general disrespect for other drivers. The lady driving the Buick cussed him out, flipped him the bird, tailgated him, then zipped around him like a crazed stunt driver while snapping pictures of his car. I had a white knuckle grip on the arm rest and dash while I prayed to survive the next few moments. The driver of the Buick was my wife.

Schumer: no post vote back lash.

"This is a happy day. (Senate Republican Leader) Mitch McConnell said on the floor that we're going to go home and hear our constituents rail against this bill. I don't believe that. I believe that the negativity that Leader McConnell and others have continually displayed on the floor has peaked, and now when people learn what's actually in the bill—and all the good it does—it is going to become more and more popular because it is good for America, good for the American people, and a true symbol of what we can do if we all pull together," said Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer.
So let's see you Dems test that theory with a few town hall meetings: real ones with an open forum and no SEIU thugs present. Please. I dare you.

That's what I get for waiting so long to file.

I filed my Federal tax return for 2008 late this year. I always file as an injured spouse because my wife has an outstanding educational loan that she received and defaulted on prior to our marriage. I was due a refund. They received the return early in November and today I got a letter telling me that the Treasury Department had taken it to pay on the loan. This happens almost every year. So, I call the IRS around 8:00pm and two hours later and four IRS employees later I had an answer. the refund is pending and call back in about three weeks if I haven't gotten it. Calling the IRS is a pain. Everyone I spoke to was extremely helpful and did their best with the tools they had. Its not the employees. Its not the referrals to other employees. Its the listening to the music, some classical some who the frack knows, while waiting "in excess of fifteen minutes" for someone to get to you. And again, everyone I spoke to did their best to help me until one was finally able to. The moral? I don't know, but this year I'm filing early. Merry Christmas

Two Quotes Revisited...

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. - Claire Wolfe
With the forward movement of Health Care and the shenanigans it took to push it forward, its later than you think.

And...
No man's life, liberty, or property is safe, while Congress is in session. - Mark Twain
No further comment required.

I lied. Consider this a no confidence vote. Anyone who supported this travesty directly or indirectly needs to go. Kick those worthless bums in Congress to the fucking curb and start fresh with new elections. I don't care that their fucking terms aren't over. They've proven themselves either fools of enemies of the American people and the Constitution. They betrayed us and they have to go. Now. Midterm is too late.

To My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.

Internet Movie Firearms Database

I asked for help confirming an ID on one of the pistols in Harry Brown [2009]. GuardDuck was kind enough to direct me to the Internet Movie Firearms Database where I found my answer and a lot more. Neat.

Chuck Schumer [D-NY]: What a dick.

No argument from me on that one. Chuck Schumer is one of those "public servants" whose actions prove he considers himself a "public master". The rules, however stupid they may be, are for us not him or the bimbo sitting beside him on the plane.

"You've failed to maintain your weapon sir."

I watched Harry Brown [2009] and it easily lives up to the promise of the trailer. Sir Michael Caine is in top form as a retired Royal Marine. When his friend is murdered by bangers [I don't know or care what they call 'em in Great Britain.] and the system can't do a damn thing about it, he does. It's a damn good movie that will get little or no recognition because it [whisper] glorifies vigilantes. If Great Britain is as bad as shown here they could use a few. If you can find it playing anywhere go see it.

Now if anyone who saw the movie can tell me what the gun was whose barrel the thug used to smoke crack through, I'd be interested. I thought it might be a Walther P-38 but I couldn't get a clear look at it. Just wondering.

Update: It was the Walther P-38. Thanks GuardDuck for the pointer.

The Santa Clause 2

The other night my son and I were watching The Santa Clause 2. There's a scene where the elves are taking Santa's Workshop back from the toy soldiers and throwing snowballs with little effect. My comment to Noah was...
"Somebody had to have asked Santa for a rifles and ammo for Christmas. Find those and use 'em instead."

Obama's B+

Obama gave himself a B+ for his performance in his first year as President. If he is grading himself on his attempts to push his agenda I can see it. He's moved our nation several steps closer to a European style social democracy. If you grade him on fulfilling his oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" I'd have to give him a failing grade. None of this really matters: his midterm is in 2010 and his final in 2012. That's when the people will give him his grades. I'm looking forward to it.

More Bloomberg Manure

Bloomberg's Mayor's Against Guns is touting a poll that allegedly asked NRA members what they thought about closing the gun show "loophole" and or barring guns from those on the "watch list". The poll showed support by these "NRA" members and Bloomberg and his fellow travelers in the House and Senate and running with it. There are a couple of problems with this poll. The company that carried it out advertises that it will get the payer the results they want by asking the questions in a way that will elicit the wanted response. the other problems is that neither Bloomberg nor the company he hired to run this so called poll have access to the NRA's membership list. So who the hell did they poll? The media response? Run with it like its real.

That's about what I would expect.

Law-Abiding Citizen [2009]

I watched Law-Abiding Citizen last night. A man's wife and daughter are violated and murdered during a home invasion. The prosecutors choose the expedient route and offer a plea to one of the murderers, the actual murderer, to get a solid conviction on the other. The husband is not happy. So he waits ten years. You see the husband has lesson to teach and a very special skill set...

Due to past events in my life, I have an affection for movies of this sort. Most are simply action films. This one at least tries to make a point. It's also well done.

I've been rereading...

...Tom Kratman's A State of Disobedience. His later solo novels and those co-written with John Ringo are better but that's experience and Ringo. It's not bad and as easy to read the second time as the first. A Hilliary clone takes the White House and then consolidates power over as many dead bodies as it takes. This leads to problems. Think of it as alternative history that offers a lesson in current events.

Impeachment anyone?

The EPA has classified CO2 as a harmful pollutant. In essence the Obama Administration has told the Senate support cap and tax or well... fuck you, we'll do what we want through regulation. So guys, what ya gonna do? Impeachment anyone?

There's a snowballs chance in hell of that happening since the Dems are in power and they put loyalty to party over loyalty to the Constitution. 2010 may be too fucking late.

...the consent of the governed.

It seems to me that when you begin to push a radical agenda because you won the Presidency by a simple majority that was no where near the landslide MSNBC would like to make it, you're asking for trouble. Trouble of the 1861 variety.

Maybe the Democrats, and for that matter the Republicrats, need to reconsider what that line in the Declaration of Independence about consent of the governed really means. They can start by checking out this and this.

SPIW: Special Purpose Individual Weapon

The Special Purpose Individual Weapon (SPIW) was a unique, multi-purpose weapon introduced in the early 1960's that was capable of firing bursts of tiny, lethal darts (flechettes) and three 40mm high explosive grenades.

I think we're using the wrong word...

...for the guys/gals who outed the "scientists" at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit. The word "hacker" implies criminal conduct. I prefer the term "whistle blower". In any event, Senator Boxer there is criminal conduct in Climategate. You're just looking in the wrong place.

Actually, I don't deny the whistle blower[s] committed a crime. I just think it's overshadowed by the massive fraud committed by certain global warming scientists to push an agenda for a political rather than scientific purpose. Oh wait Senator Boxer...you're also pushing a political agenda based on global warming aren't you? I guess that makes you an accessory after the fact. Doesn't it?
